How to care for your spray tan

After Your Tan Session

Wear loose fitting clothing until your first shower, while your spray tan develops, and be very careful not to get wet.

Don’t exercise heavily or get sweaty, for the first 12-24 hours, until your color has fully developed.

Your first shower with after tanning solution is applied, should be a water-only rinse. Please use your hands to gently wash off any excess bronzer, so that color will develop evenly. Use warm water, and rinse well for about 5 minutes. If you look streaky after your shower, it means you haven’t rinsed well enough and need to get back in the shower and rinse again, making sure to use your hands to get the excess bronzer off of your body. Do not use any lotion after your first rinse.

For a light tan, rinse skin in 1-2 hours
For a medium tan, rinse skin in 3 hours
For a darker tan, rinse skin in 4 hours

The bronzer will wash away, while the DHA solution will continue to work and deepen skin color over the next 24 hours.

Gently pat your skin dry with a towel.

During your second shower, wash with a mild shower gel or body wash, Use your hands or washcloth (gently, no scrubbing). Do NOT use Dove soap, or anything that says "renewing," "regenerating," "anti-aging," or "anti-acne"! They contain ingredients that will remove your tan. Sulfate-free and natural products are best.

Maintaining your Sunless Tan

Apply a moisturizer or body butter to shower damp skin. (Avoid: Curel or Dove – these can ruin your tan) A few recommendations are: Shea Moisture, CeraVe, Lubriderm, Vanicream, or Hempz, The best moisturizer is one that you will actually use daily. We offer a tan extender lotion suitable for your skin type. Our tan extender is special formulated for use on airbrush tanned skin. Remember, all tanning products are not alike.
To maximize the duration of your tan use a tan extending lotion every day or every other day. Be sure to wash your hands after applying.
Avoid exfoliating skin while you enjoy your spray tan. Do not use a loofah or scrub your skin. Some products can cause faster fading – bar soaps, products with sulfates, alcohol-based products such as toners and astringents, products that cause exfoliation such as AHAs, BHAs, Retin-A, etc. (anti-aging, anti-acne, regenerating, renewing)
Make sure that when you shave, you do so gently with a sharp razor (new is better than a dull one) to avoid exfoliating skin. Use either body wash or hair conditioner instead of harsher shaving gels or creams.
The chlorine in hot tubs and swimming pools, and even the salt in ocean can be hard on a spray tan. If you plan on doing any swimming, apply a waterproof sunblock, and only spend limited time in the water.
